FanGraphs | Eric Longenhagen: Longenhagen runs down the 40-man roster situation for all the American League teams. This is the time of the year all 30 clubs do a bit of a dance with their 40-man’s, as teams must decide which prospects to add to the 40-man to protect in the Rule 5 Draft, while also considering the possible addition of veteran players via trade or free agency. The Yankees often deal with a bit of a 40-man crunch in the offseason, but they aren’t in a tight spot just yet. They currently have 35 players on the 40-man roster, though top prospects Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz and Spencer Jones will have to be added. Longenhagen also projects lower-profile pitching prospect Allen Facundo, noting that the 23-year-old hard-throwing lefty could get taken in the Rule 5 if the Yankees don’t protect him.

MLB.com | Joe Trezza: Two weeks into the offseason, the outfield remains the Yankees’ biggest question mark. Among the uncertainty: could Spencer Jones play a role in 2026? As of now, Brian Cashman has said that Jones will have a chance to win a job in the team’s outfield come spring training next year. That said, should Trent Grisham accept the qualifying offer, Cody Bellinger return on a long-term deal, or both, things could get crowded quickly on the grass at Yankee Stadium.

The Athletic | Ken Rosenthal: ($) Over in Queens, a very competitive market appears to be brewing for Mets closer Edwin Díaz. The 31-year-old right-hander opted out of the final two years of his deal with the Mets and is a cinch to decline the $22-million qualifying offer. Rosenthal notes the Yankees as among the teams with interest, with their bullpen a bit uncertain after David Bednar. But a team that has been popping up a lot in rumors coming out of this week’s GM meetings shows up here too: the Blue Jays. Toronto seems ready to spend after this year’s World Series run, and they will reportedly be willing to make a significant offer to Díaz.
