Luis Urías

One team that hasn’t received a ton of love this offseason is the Colorado Rockies. Now it’s hard to say that there’s not a reason for this, but below we’ll be discussing the possibility of the Rockies signing Luis Urías.

Now the Rockies are coming off a year where they just won 43 games, so they haven’t exactly been the center of the baseball world. It’s not as if it was just last year, either.

The past few seasons have been rough for the Rockies as they’ve failed to win more than 75 games since 2018. While adding pitching talent is going to be difficult still, one main thing they can pitch to free agents is their adventurous stadium for hitters.

According to Baseball Savant, the Rockies have the highest park factor in the MLB at 113. With that in mind, here’s why Urías could sign with the Rockies.

This is a PREDICTION, not a REPORT.

Luis Urías Joining Colorado Rockies in MLB Free Agency

At 24 years old, Urías had a massive breakout with the Milwaukee Brewers. That year, Urías had 3.3 WAR, 23 home runs, and a .249 batting average.

Then the next year in 2022, Urías had 3.0 WAR, 16 home runs, and a .239 batting average. However, starting in 2023, Urías would struggle to stay on the field, playing in just 52 games.

That year was the start of a clear decline for Urías as he had -0.2 WAR, three home runs, and a .194 batting average. Urías ended up getting traded to the Boston Red Sox that year as well.

At this point, the last time we’ve seen Urías play in over 100 games was in 2022. With Urías still somewhat young at 29 years old, there’s time for him to sign a short contract, prove himself, and hit the open market once again.

At this point, no one is signing Urías for the player he was in 2025, but his numbers from that year are still worth looking at. In 96 games, Urías had 0.5 WAR, eight home runs, and a .230 batting average.

How Luis Urías Fits with the Colorado Rockies

The Rockies just need to take chances on players who could help them turn things around. If the Rockies miss on Urías, it’s not going to set their franchise back too much.

At the same time, if Urías is great, that would be a massive boost to this team. It’s essentially a move with a good amount of upside, and the Rockies are in a better spot than a majority of MLB teams to take on the risk.

Right now, Adael Amador is projected to be the Rockies’ starting second baseman in 2026 (per Fangraphs). Amador had a rough 2025 campaign, and at 22 years old, he could benefit from having a bit more time to develop.

Last year, Amador had -1.2 WAR, one home run, and a .177 batting average in 41 games. Even if Urías doesn’t get back close to his former self, he would be an upgrade from those numbers.

Luis Urías Stats

When looking at Baseball Savant for Urías, he had a few interesting stats that are worth mentioning. Urías had a .297 xwOBA and a .234 xBA. Neither are great numbers.

But then again, you’re not signing Urías in the hope that 2025 is his new normal. All things considered, the Colorado Rockies could leverage their advantageous stadium in order to sign Luis Urías in MLB free agency.
