Ortiz, a 25-year-old reliever, made the climb from High-A to Triple-A in the Dodgers organization this year while pitching his most innings since 2019.
The left-hander posted a 2.73 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 72 strikeouts and 33 walks over 59 1/3 innings in 48 minor league appearances this season. In 15 outings at the Triple-A level, he had a 2.76 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 14 strikeouts and nine walks over 16 1/3 innings.
Ortiz features a three-pitch mix with a four-seamer, sinker and slider. His fastball sat around 94-96 mph this season.
A Peravia, D.R., native, Ortiz signed with the Dodgers as an international free agent in June 2017. He’s pitched in parts of six minor league seasons from 2017-2025.
Injuries limited Ortiz to just 22 2/3 innings and 10 total appearances from 2021-24. He did not pitch in a minor league game in 2022 or 2023, and he spent the final three-plus months of 2024 on Los Angeles’ development list.
The addition of Ortiz brings the Mariners’ 40-man roster to 39 players.
Gough, a 22-year-old starter, missed the 2025 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in September 2024.
A ninth-round pick in 2022 out of high school, Gough spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with High-A Modesto. He had a 4.66 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 123 strikeouts and 47 walks over 125 2/3 innings pitched in 33 games (32 starts) across his first two minor league seasons.
