When the New York Yankees went on to sign Paul Goldschmidt for the 2025 season, it was after they had come off a World Series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and were trying to go all-in, surrounding Aaron Judge with talent.
They did that, and the one-year, $12 million deal Paul Goldschmidt signed there proved to be worth it to start. The Yankees managed to get to the AL Divisional Series due to the help of Goldschmidt. Yet, with the rise of Ben Rice at first base, it led to Goldschmidt’s role being decreased as the season went on.
Now with Paul Goldschmidt set to hit free agency, it is unlikely he re-signs with the Yankees, and instead looks to sign elsewhere on a team where he can have a more prominent role. The team he can sign with to accomplish this is the Cleveland Guardians.

Cleveland Guardians Sign Paul Goldschmidt in 2026 MLB Free Agency
As the Cleveland Guardians approach 2026 MLB Free Agency, they need to address the first base position, and they need to address getting another offensive playmaker on the team. The Guardians finished atop the American League Central Division last season with only averaging 3.9 runs per game, which ranked 28th.
Now this leaves Cleveland in a spot where they can only wonder how much further they can go as a team with a more stable offense. To do so, while also not breaking the bank, they can look to end up signing Paul Goldschmidt.
With Paul Goldschmidt having been in the league for 15 years, he would end up bringing experience to the Guardians roster. Just last season on the Yankees, he had the second-highest batting average on the team with .274 while also having a .328 on-base percentage and .403 slugging percentage.
With Paul Goldschmidt putting up some of his best production he had in his career while being 38 years old, it shows he can still be impactful, Â and provide an offensive boost that the Guardians need.
