Nathaniel Lowe’s time with the Boston Red Sox is at an end.
The team designated the veteran first baseman for assignment on Thursday after completing a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays.

To make room for Gray on the 40-man roster, Boston designated 1B Nathaniel Lowe for assignment.

Lowe, 30, split last season between the Red Sox and Washington Nationals. In a combined 153 games, the Norfolk, VA native batted .228 with 123 hits, 18 home runs, 84 runs batted in and an OPS of .689.
Originally taken with 13th-round selection of the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft out of Mississippi State, Lowe spent the first two seasons of his career with the Rays before four with the Texas Rangers with whom he won the 2023 World Series. Lowe won an American League Silver Slugger Award in 2022 and a Gold Glove in 2023.
Gray, 29, has 47 games of big league experience over three seasons, including 30 this past season with the Rays.
