The Philadelphia Phillies are starting to make moves in order to build a roster that can get them back to the World Series. While they have not made any splash signings yet, they are starting to add depth.
According to Just Baseball’s Aram Leighton, the Phillies have agreed to a minor league deal with Liover Peguero. Piguero has spent the last four seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Peguero was the No. 79 prospect on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 in 2022.
He spent most of last season in Triple-A, playing 75 games for the Indianapolis Indians. In those games, he hit just .247 with six home runs. He elected free agency on Nov. 6. He does have big league experience and could be a solid depth piece for the Phillies.

He has played in 96 big league games, but has not found much success. He has a career .227/.278/.368 slash line. His most productive season came in 2023 when he hit seven home runs in 59 games. He is a versatile defender, and that could make him valuable to the Phillies.
Peguero has played shortstop, second base, first base, third base and center field between his time in the minors and big leagues. He may not be an impact player, but he could be an important piece if the Phillies deal with injuries throughout the season.
