Trent Grisham’s return to the Yankees has left some fans upset — while others are inconceivably outraged.
One such fan called into WFAN on Tuesday evening to air his grievances — of which he had plenty.
A video posted to social media by @franks_yanks captured a Yankees fan spewing a ballistic rant aimed at the team’s front office, reacting to the news that Grisham would be returning to The Bronx after accepting the $22.025 million qualifying offer Tuesday afternoon.
“Now we gotta deal with this one-hit wonder, overpaid bum Trent Grisham!” the fan screamed during a mostly-gibberish tirade, which included an unintelligible jab at owner Hal Steinbrenner. “We got Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole in their god damn prime and we’re wasting it with Trent Grisham!”
“Brian Cashman,” he added, “you’re a — I — I don’t know! I don’t know!”
The 29-year-old center fielder, who was originally acquired two seasons ago from the San Diego Padres in the trade for Juan Soto, returns after a breakout season in which clobbered 34 home runs and boasted a career-best .811 OPS across 143 games.

The mustachioed slugger, who entered last season with a career .697 OPS, could have a hard time replicating his 2025 success, however the upside of extending the qualifying offer is the Yankees would have received a compensatory draft pick had he declined.
Still, Grisham’s return further complicates the team’s already convoluted offseason plans.

Cashman confirmed that Grisham’s return does not impede the Yankees’ top priority of retaining former MVP outfielder Cody Bellinger, who enjoyed a resurgent first season in pinstripes.
However, the $22 million reunion could stymie the team’s pursuit of prized outfielder Kyle Tucker — the top free agent on the market — and potentially thwart the progress of burgeoning outfielders Jasson Dominguez and Spencer Jones.
Before Grisham’s resigning, Cashman previewed the potential landscape of the Yankees’ outfield and possible futures for the prized youngsters if Grisham and/or Bellinger were to return.
“If one of those guys [Grisham or Bellinger] comes back, it creates a nice competition [for Domínguez and Jones],” Cashman said. “If both come back, maybe it creates some trade flexibility.”

Grisham’s return is the first domino to fall for a Yankees front office that has a lot of work to do before Opening Day.
While the move doesn’t immediately fix their outfield, nor does it answer any questions regarding their rotation or bullpen, it’s hard to get that upset over one of the top power-hitting center fielders in the majors — let alone burst into a fit of rage live on air.
