KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Frank Anderson, the pitching coach for the University of Tennessee baseball team, is expected to leave Tennessee and join the staff of former head coach, Tony Vitello, in San Francisco, according to Eric Cain with Volquest.
Cain posted the announcement on X Wednesday night.
Anderson joined the Tennessee coaching staff in June of 2017. Since then, he has led the Vols to five NCAA Tournament appearances (2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025), three trips to the Men’s College World Series (2021, 2023, 2024) and captured the first ever national championship for Tennessee in 2024.
Former Vols head coach Tony Vitello left Tennessee in October after he signed with the San Francisco Giants as the organization’s next manager.
Specifics about what Anderson’s position would be on Vitello’s staff has not been announced.
Cain also posted on Wednesday that Josh Reynolds will be replacing Anderson as Tennessee’s next pitching coach. Reynolds was on support staff prior to last season and was a pitching coach a Cincinnati.
