The New York Yankees added some much-needed pop to the infield back in 2024 in the form of Jazz Chisholm Jr.

New York acquired Chisholm from the Miami Marlins in 2024 and he has been everything the team could’ve hoped for since. The 27-year-old clubbed 11 homers, drove in 23 runs, and stole 18 bases in 46 games played for the Yankees in 2024. He was even better in 2025. He slashed .242/.332/.481 with 31 homers, 80 RBIs, 31 stolen bases, 15 doubles, and 75 runs in 130 games played.

Chisholm earned his second All-Star nod and tallied the highest wins above replacement in his career to date at 4.2.

What makes Chisholm even better is the fact that he’s currently under team control for the 2026 season. He’s also made it clear that he wants to stick around with the Yankees for the long run, though. That has raised the question of whether he could land a long-term extension this offseason. FanSided’s MLB insider Robert Murray weighed in on the possibility.

“The Yankees typically do not offer contract extensions, as they prefer to allow players to establish their values on the open market,” Murray wrote. “There have been exceptions, of course, most notably when they tried extending Aaron Judge in 2022. And Chisholm could be another one, as general manager Brian Cashman did not dismiss the idea outright when asked last week.

” … Chisholm, 27, is coming off a terrific season in the Bronx, hitting .242/.332/.481 with an .813 OPS, 31 home runs and 80 RBI. He also made his second All-Star appearance. His value entering the final season of his contract is enormous, and it would take quite an offer to entice him to forego free agency. My best guess is that he plays out the year on his current deal and enters the market after the 2026 season.”

With the way the Yankees operate, that seems like the most likely possibility.
