The Detroit Tigers had an excellent 2025 season, even if it ended in heartbreak. The Tigers came within one game of the American League Championship Series, falling short to the Seattle Mariners in the postseason.

But this team gained some much-needed experience that they can build off of going into next season. However, entering the offseason, Detroit may need to add some pieces to the roster to ensure that it can keep things going strong.

The Tigers have a solid foundation in place, but many around the sport also see them as potential sleepers in free agency. This team doesn’t need a lot, but the front office could always look to shore up areas of the team to help the cause.

It remains to be seen how the Tigers will go about this, or how aggressive the front office will actually be. But the success from this past season should be reason enough to see Detroit spend some money to add to the roster.

This is just a prediction, NOT a report!

Michael King Will Join the Detroit Tigers

As the Tigers figure out how to proceed this offseason, the front office has been rumored to want more starting pitching help. Luckily for Detroit, there are multiple options in free agency who could make a difference for this team, and it could see the Tigers be very active this year.

One name that could make sense for them is veteran Michael King, who has spent the last few seasons with the San Diego Padres. King was the centerpiece of the trade that sent star Juan Soto to the New York Yankees years ago, and he has shown why with the Padres.

With the Padres this past season, King posted an ERA of 3.44 over 15 starts. The veteran dealt with some injury concerns this year, which have been a problem for him over the years.

But King is still one of the better arms available on the open market, and the Tigers could massively benefit from adding him to the team. Putting him next to Tarik Skubal and Jack Flaherty could give the Tigers one of the nastiest rotations in the sport.

If King can stay healthy, he can be dominant on the mound and a real steal for any team. Detroit could use his services, and since he won’t be at the top of the market money-wise, the Tigers may be more willing to go after him.

The Tigers could likely land King on a four-year deal, cementing the rotation for years to come. This could also be somewhat of an insurance plan for Detroit in case Skubal leaves in free agency, or if the team were to trade him at some point.
