Corey Seager

One of the overlooked storylines this 2026 MLB offseason so far is that the Texas Rangers could be looking to reshape their team a bit for the future. The main way the Rangers are planning to go about this is by cutting their payroll ahead of the 2026 season, and allocate the money to getting younger as a team.

What has been discussed frequently as a way the Rangers are looking to do so is to non-tender key players like Adolis García or Jonah Heim, but there is another way they can do so, and that is through trades.

One of the players the Rangers could look to trade is Corey Seager, as he is due $186 million over the next six seasons. A team that can look to acquire the talents of Seager, while also taking on his contract, is the New York Yankees.

Texas Rangers Trade Corey Seager to the New York Yankees

The New York Yankees ended up making the playoffs in the2025 MLB season, but they didn’t go as far as they did the season prior, as they were eliminated by the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League Divisional Series. The pressure is now mounting for Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman to figure out what it is going to take to get the team back to winning the World Series.

One of the biggest areas that plagued the team last season that New York needs to address this offseason is their shortstop position. Per FanGraphs, the Yankees finished tied with the Tampa Bay Rays for the fifth-worst production from the shortstop position in terms of’ wins above replacement in 2025 with 1.2.

After a horrid defensive season from Anthony Volpe, on top of him putting together just a slash line of .212/.272/.391, it is clear the Yankees need to find another solution at shortstop, and trading for Corey Seager can be their answer.

Just last season, despite missing time with injury, Corey Seager ended up producing a .271/.373/.487 slash line with 21 home runs. In terms of his wins above replacement, he was ranked seventh, which would’ve been a massive help on the Yankees last season.

Corey Seager is a proven talent with him being a five-time All-Star, and his experience paired with his impact in the lineup alongside Aaron Judge would help pay off immensely in the Yankees’ quest to getting fully back to their dominant ways.
