Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow is looking to add a middle-of-the-order bat and a frontline starting pitcher — and has been remarkably open about his intentions early in the offseason.

It’ll certainly help him spread the word, but many remain curious what else is on the table moving forward…

FanSided’s Robert Murray shot down one popular idea during his offseason mailbag on Thursday.

“(Breslow) wants someone who can slot in alongside or behind Garrett Crochet and start playoff games. He also told MLB.com that he feels ‘pretty good about overall starting pitching and Nos. 3-ish through 10-ish,’” Murray recalled. “My read: multiple starters would appear unlikely.”

The Red Sox certainly seem to be in good shape with the starting rotation — so long as they go find that second option. Garrett Crochet, Brayan Bello and Connelly Early have the inside track to start the season in the rotation, while one offseason addition would leave just one full-time role to the likes of Patrick Sandoval, Kyle Harrison, Peyton Tolle, Kutter Crawford, Richard Fitts, Hunter Dobbins, Shane Drohan and Tyler Uberstine — with the rest serving as depth options that will almost certainly be utilized throughout the season.

Boston did use 15 different starting pitchers in 2025.

If there only happens to be one addition made to the starting rotation, that would leave the club in tremendous shape to make multiple splash additions to the lineup — no matter if they do it through free agency or trade.
