Friday was Major League Baseball’s non-tender deadline, and the Arizona Diamondbacks tendered contracts to eight arbitration-eligible players and non-tendered pitchers Taylor Rashi and Tommy Henry.
Arizona tendered contracts to pitchers Ryan Thompson, A.J. Puk, Kevin Ginkel and Ryne Nelson, along with catcher Gabriel Moreno, first baseman Pavin Smith and outfielders Jake McCarthy and Alek Thomas.
The 40-man roster is at 40 players after the Diamondbacks made their re-signing of catcher James McCann official.
What they have to work with on the 40-man is clear, as Arizona earlier this week selected the contracts of four prospects to protect them from the Rule 5 Draft: pitchers Kohl Drake, Mitch Bratt and Dylan Ray, along with shortstop Jose Fernandez.
Rashi pitched 10 games in relief for the Diamondbacks in 2025 to a 4.41 ERA and 1.91 FIP. He made his major league debut this past season and recorded two saves.
Henry, who underwent Tommy John surgery over the summer, was designated for assignment earlier this week.
The Diamondbacks had decisions to make in their bullpen but opted to keep their core of Ginkel, Puk and Thompson intact. Puk will miss the start of next season as he recovers from elbow surgery, and he will enter free agency after 2026.

Arizona signed right-handed reliever Junior Fernandez to a minor league contract, per the transactions page.
Fernandez is 28 years old and delivers a 99 mph fastball. He pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals from 2019-22 and the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2022. He has been in the minor leagues since then. He has a big fastball and adds some bullpen depth that does not count against the 40-man roster entering the spring.
