The Chicago Cubs and right-handed relief pitcher Phil Maton have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with a club option for 2028, according to The Athletic’s Will Sammon.
Maton made 63 appearances last year for the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers, who acquired the 32-year-old from the Redbirds for minor league pitchers Skyler Hales and Mason Molina as well as cash considerations.
For the year, Maton went 4-5 with a 2.79 ERA, striking out 81 batters over 61.1 innings and posting a 1.06 WHIP.
