That move makes Adolis García, Jonah Heim, Josh Sborz and Jacob Webb all free agents, meaning they’re now free to sign with any team.
ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers are making major changes to their roster, parting ways with four familiar names while locking in one outfielder for the future.
The team announced Friday that outfielder Adolis García, catcher Jonah Heim, and pitchers Josh Sborz and Jacob Webb did not receive contract offers for the 2026 season ahead of the league’s deadline. That move makes all four players free agents, meaning they’re now free to sign with any team.
In baseball terms, “non-tendering” means the team chose not to commit to a guaranteed contract for next season.
Texas did strike a deal with one player: Sam Haggerty, who agreed to a one-year contract that covers the 2026 season and avoids salary arbitration.
Haggerty, 31, played 64 games for the Rangers in 2025 and hit .253, with strong production against left-handed pitching. In a press release, the team said he also showed versatility, starting games at all three outfield positions and designated hitter.
With Haggerty returning, the Rangers now have seven players locked into contracts for 2026, including stars like Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, Nathan Eovaldi, Jacob deGrom, and Joc Pederson. Four others remain eligible for arbitration, a process used to determine salaries for certain players: Jake Burger, Ezequiel Duran, Josh Jung, and Josh Smith.
The most notable departure, though, is García. The charismatic pulse of the Rangers, ‘El Bombi’, has played his way into the hearts of Rangers fans for several years.
The 32-year-old slugger hit 19 home runs and drove in 75 runs last season, and he appeared in at least 135 games for five straight years. He delivered some of the most memorable postseason moments in franchise history, including eight homers and a playoff-record 22 RBI during the team’s 2023 run to the World Series title, earning ALCS MVP honors.
Heim, the team’s primary catcher last season, also heads to free agency. The 30-year-old made 91 starts behind the plate in 2025 and hit 11 home runs. He played five seasons with Texas after arriving in a 2021 trade.
Sborz, who played a key role in the 2023 championship run but missed all of 2025 recovering from shoulder surgery, and Webb, who posted a strong 3.00 ERA in relief last season, round out the group of non-tendered players.
After these moves, the Rangers’ Major League roster now sits at 34 players as the club continues shaping its 2026 plans.
