According to multiple reports, the Texas Rangers are looking to shed salary this offseason. Their biggest contract on the books is former Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager, as the Rangers still owe the 2x World Series MVP $186 million over the next 6 years.

The Rangers are reportedly looking to shed payroll and a contract being floated around is Corey Seager’s.

Seager has a no-trade clause, and the only two teams, so far, reported to not be on that list are the Yankees and Red Sox.

Even though Seager has a no-trade clause as part of his contract, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports Seager would be willing to waive his no-trade clause for a variety of big-market teams, including the Dodgers, Red Sox, and Yankees.

If the Rangers truly wanted to get out from under the remainder of Seager’s contract, now would be the time to trade him at peak value.

At 31 years old and with a 6.2 WAR, Seager is entering the end of his athletic prime, and any contender could use a player like Seager to make a push for a World Series.

Dodgers Fans Would Love To Have Corey Seager Return

Out of all the great players the Dodgers have drafted but lost in free agency, none hurts Dodger fans more than the loss of shortstop Corey Seager. Even though Mookie Betts did an admirable job replacing Seager en route to this year’s World Series, fans and players know Mookie Betts is best suited in the outfield.

Seager could return to the Dodgers and take his rightful place back at shortstop for our boys in blue. Even though the Dodgers could potentially add names even bigger in free agency, no move would get Dodgers fans more excited than seeing the return of one of the fan favorites in 2x World Series MVP Corey Seager.

The Dodgers would have to trade for the superstar shortstop in order to get him, so it would certainly depend on the asking price set by the Rangers. The contract is also scary, but as baseball fans are well aware, money is no issue for the Dodgers, who would happily pay the remainder of Seager’s contract if it means ending the 2026 season with a historic 3 peat.

Seager would potentially fill a massive hole in the Dodgers’ infield and would be a great addition to the team for the right price.

Here is a montage of Seager’s incredible postseason run in 2020, carrying the Dodgers to their first World Series win in 32 years en route to Seager’s first World Series MVP.
