The Philadelphia Phillies are one of the more confusing teams in baseball right now. They’re one of the most talented teams in the league with some star players on the roster, but they haven’t found much success at all over the last few postseasons.
The Phillies haven’t been able to get to the World Series since 2022 and now they’re set to lose Kyle Schwarber to free agency. The Athletic’s Jim Bowden recently projected Schwarber would sign a massive $160 million deal in free agency this winter. At that price, there won’t be that many realistic suitors for the slugger.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today recently predicted the Phillies would be able to re-sign Schwarber in free agency this winter, which would be a huge move in the right direction.

The Phillies are one of the better teams in the league, but if they lose Schwarber, they’re going to struggle a bit more going forward.
Re-signing Schwarber should be at the top of the Phillies’ list of priorities this winter. It could be an expensive deal to get done, but after Schwarber put together an MVP-level season this year, it’s warranted.
Teams like the New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds could make realistic runs at Schwarber, but the Phillies should be willing to overpay a bit to get him back to Philadelphia going forward.
