LOS ANGELES — No. 23 UC Irvine defeated Arizona State by a final score of 11-6 in an elimination game in the Los Angeles Regional of the 2025 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, Sunday at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

The Anteaters improve to 43-16 overall and will face No. 15 seed and host UCLA in the regional final at 8 p.m. PT. If they win that game, the if-necessary contest will be played on Monday, June 2. UC Irvine will need to win both games against the Bruins to go to Super Regionals. Arizona State ends its season with a 36-24 record.Â

Anteater right fielder Chase Call hit two home runs for three RBI and two runs scored. Second baseman Will Bermudez went 3-for-6 with one RBI and two runs. Left fielder Frankie Carney also had three hits and scored a run. Third baseman James Castagnola and designated hitter Alfonso Reyes each had two RBI and two runs scored. Starter Ryder Brooks (7-3) got the win, pitching 5.1 innings. Reliever Ricky Ojeda threw 1.1 innings and gave up no runs. David Utagawa threw the final 2.1 innings and gave up one run.

UC Irvine took a 1-0 lead right out of the gate as Anthony Martinez hit a single to plate Bermudez in the first inning. Arizona State would score a run of their own in the bottom of the frame to tie the game.

Jacob McCombs hit a solo bomb in the third to put the Anteaters back in front. In the fourth inning, Reyes and Call each corked two-run home runs as UCI grabbed a commanding 6-1 lead. The Sun Devils got one back in the bottom of the inning to cut the gap to 6-2.

Call blasted his second homer of the game in the top of the sixth for a 7-2 UCI advantage. ASU scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to make it a two-run ball game, 7-5. The Anteaters plated four runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach. Castagnola hit a solo home run, Reyes scored on an error and Carney touched home plate on a Bermudez double.
