Arlington, Texas (November 24, 2025) The Texas Rangers continue making a series of offseason changes under new manager Skip Schumaker, executing a major trade on Monday that sends franchise stalwart Marcus Semien to the New York Mets in exchange for veteran outfielder Brandon Nimmo and cash considerations.
The 32-year-old Nimmo is coming off a career year where he set career highs with 25 home runs, 92 RBI, and 155 games played. The left-handed hitter posted a .262/.324/.436/.760 slash line, ranking third on the Mets in hits, RBI, and doubles (27).
Known for his plate discipline, the 10-year veteran carries a career .364 on-base percentage and has been remarkably durable, appearing in at least 151 games in each of the last four seasons—a feat accomplished by only nine MLB players. Since 2022, Nimmo’s 14.1 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) ranks among the top 20 National League position players.
He also brings a high-caliber defensive game, recording a career-high five outfield assists in 2025 while his .996 fielding percentage ranked seventh among qualified NL outfielders. Nimmo, who had spent his entire professional career in the Mets organization after being the 13th overall pick in the 2011 draft, will be the third player born in Wyoming to suit up for the Rangers.
The trade brings to an end Semien’s four-season tenure in Texas, a period that included the club’s 2023 World Series championship.
Semien batted .249/.317/.420/.737 with 93 home runs and 319 RBI across 609 games for the Rangers (2022-25). During his time in Texas, he earned All-Star nods in 2023 and 2024, a Silver Slugger in 2023, and a Gold Glove Award in 2025.
His time in Arlington was defined by remarkable durability, including a 349-game consecutive streak that is the third-longest in franchise history. He also set an MLB record for games started overall (179) during the 2023 championship season. Semien’s 19 leadoff home runs rank third on the Rangers’ all-time list. His 2025 season was cut short on August 21 after fouling a ball off his left foot, resulting in a .230 average with 15 home runs and 62 RBI.
Non-Tenders Add to Offseason Roster Flux
The trade comes three days after the Rangers reshaped their roster, in which they did not tender 2026 contract offers to four key players:
OF Adolis GarcÃa (32)
C Jonah Heim (30)
RHP Josh Sborz (31)
RHP Jacob Webb (32)
The most notable non-tender is GarcÃa, the 2023 ALCS MVP, who spent five seasons with the club and hit 141 home runs. Heim, the switch-hitting starting catcher, and Sborz, a key reliever on the 2023 World Series staff, also became free agents.
Simultaneously, the club agreed to terms with outfielder Sam Haggerty, avoiding arbitration, bringing the current Major League roster total to 34 players.
With the coaching staff revamped and the roster undergoing significant changes, the Rangers appear committed to a fresh start following a 78-84 finish in 2025.
