Juan Soto discusses Mets’ failure despite lofty expectations for 2025

After the Mets were eliminated from playoff contention on the season’s final day, Juan Soto discussed what went wrong on Sept. 28, 2025, in Miami.

Brandon Nimmo has said farewell to the Mets and their fans.

After he was officially dealt to the Rangers in exchange for Marcus Semien, Nimmo penned a heartfelt thank you to the Mets’ fans on Instagram.

“To the fans I’ll always hold near and dear: There is truly no way I could adequately put into words how much my tenure with the Mets has meant to me. All I can say is thank you,” Nimmo wrote. “Thank you Mets fans for embracing and welcoming a kid from Cheyenne, Wyoming to the Big Apple. I always aspired to become a big leaguer—I never knew I’d have the opportunity to accomplish that dream in a city so wildly passionate about the game of baseball.

“The last 14 years have felt like a dream, and it has been an absolute honor to share them with you. You made me feel like family, and I hope you felt the same. I will always be grateful for our time and memories together. With love, always”

With 10 years and 1,066 games under his belt, Nimmo was the Mets’ longest-tenured player before he was traded to the Rangers on Monday.

The 32-year-old was drafted by the Mets in with the 14th overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft, becoming the highest-drafted player ever out of Wyoming.

Nimmo exits with the sixth-most runs (593), seventh-best offensive WAR (27.4), eighth-best on-base percentage (.364) and ninth-most home runs (135), plate appearances (4,365) and extra-base hits (355) in the history of the Mets.

During a video conference on Monday afternoon, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns addressed the decision to trade a player as universally well-liked as Nimmo.

“From the moment the Mets drafted Brandon, he did everything right here,” Stearns said. “He represented the organization exceptionally well on and off the field and really was a great Met. We wish Brandon and his entire family nothing but the best as they embark on the next phase of Brandon’s career with the Texas Rangers.”

With the Rangers, Nimmo will be reuniting with fellow fan favorite Jacob deGrom, who is entering his fourth season in his five-year, $185 million deal with the Rangers.

Nimmo has five years remaining on his eight-year, $162 million deal which was inked before the 2023 season.

The Mets and Rangers meet in the penultimate series of the season in Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, across three games on Sept. 22-24.
