The Tampa Bay Rays finished the season with a losing record for the second straight year. Despite the disappointing end, Tampa Bay saw a new player emerge as the face of the franchise: third baseman Junior Caminero. The 22-year-old finished ninth in AL MVP voting in just his third season in MLB, all with the Rays.
Caminero posted a .264 batting average, a .311 on-base percentage, an .846 OPS, 45 home runs and 110 RBIs across 154 games. He earned his first All-Star nod for his performance during the first half.

In his first full year at the big-league level, Caminero delivered on expectations and showcased one of the most powerful swings in the game. He has positioned himself as the centerpiece of the Rays’ future, even as the team looks to rebound from consecutive losing campaigns.

As Caminero enters the offseason following an incredible year and looks to build on his breakout in 2026, he shared a major life announcement on Monday.
Caminero revealed on social media that he celebrated the birth of his daughter. In an Instagram story written in Spanish, he posted a heartfelt photo of him holding his child’s hand and a caption that translated to, “You came into the world, my queen. Mommy and I love you.”

Caminero and his wife, Francesca, announced in August that they were expecting a baby girl and that she would be named Valentina. The news follows his standout season, adding a personal milestone to a year marked by professional success.

When Caminero turns his attention back to baseball, his emergence stands out as a rare bright spot in consecutive losing seasons. His ability to generate power at such a young age has drawn comparisons to some of the game’s top sluggers, and the Rays view him as the centerpiece of their rebuild.

Entering fatherhood, the added responsibility could serve as motivation both on and off the field. Caminero still has many years of team control, and while the Rays could consider extending him, their history of operating with a low payroll makes the future uncertain. For now, the Rays look ahead to 2026 with Caminero leading the way.
