Another year, and another season for the San Francisco Giants, having to watch their rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, win the World Series. It has been a few years since the Giants were actually competitive, and this offseason could be the springboard needed for them.

All the pressure is on the Giants to field a better team, and they weren’t that far from reaching the playoffs this year. But the roster has some real holes on it, and it will be up to the front office in San Francisco to deal with this.

Giants president of baseball operations, Buster Posey, has already said that the team will be prioritizing the pitching market this winter. Posey understands that in order to win at the highest level, San Francisco needs quality arms to get outs.

“It was definitely a learning experience for me to learn that that old adage — you never can have enough pitching — is definitely true,” Posey said last month.

San Francisco already has Logan Webb as the ace of the starting rotation, but he needs some help to maximize this team. Luckily for the Giants, the free agent class this year is fairly solid, offering them a few quality pitchers to choose from.

But how the Giants go about adding to the pitching staff, whether that is in free agency or via the trade front, remains to be seen. However, this team can’t waste another season and will need to start contending with the other elite teams in the National League.

This is just a prediction, NOT a report!

Dylan Cease Signs Massive Deal With San Francisco Giants

One of the better names available on the open market this year is right-hander Dylan Cease, who has spent the last few seasons as a member of the San Diego Padres. San Francisco has seen Cease up close and personal during this time, and he could be the perfect player to add to the starting rotation.

Over 32 starts for the Padres, Cease put up an ERA of 4.55, while striking out 215 batters. The veteran also notched a WHIP of 1.32 over 168 innings of work throughout the long season.

However, there are some concerns for him heading into the winter, which is his high walk rate. Cease walked just about 10 percent of the batters that he faced this year, and it’s been a growing trend for him over the years.

But if he can work on this, the right-hander does have truly electric stuff on the mound. San Francisco has been good about working with pitchers over the years, so he could be next in line.

Cease has been one of the more durable players in baseball over the past few years, and the Giants could drastically need this. Putting him next to Webb would give the team a lethal one-two punch, and teams wouldn’t want to face this team.

Overall, Cease could fit in perfectly with this team, especially since he wouldn’t need to be the ace of the staff. The Giants should see what it would take to land the veteran, and if it makes sense, absolutely do what they can to bring him in.
