A Cheyenne native and long-time member of the New York Mets has been traded from the Mets to the Texas Rangers

Brandon Nimmo is a 32-year-old outfielder who was born in Cheyenne and attended East High School. Yahoo Sports says he was traded to the Rangers in exchange for second-basemen Marcus Semien,  who like Nimmo is a long-time major league veteran.

Nimmo, who hits left-handed, had what most would consider to be a good season in 2025, hitting 25 home runs and driving in 92 runs to go with a .262 batting average.

Nimmo had a no-trade clause with the Mets, so he could have vetoed the move to Texas had he chosen to do so.

But before making a decision, Nimmo reached out to Jacob deGrom, a pitcher who had been a Nimmo teammate in New York and now pitches for the Rangers. The ace pitcher had only good things to say about the Rangers according to mlb.com, so Nimmo decided to sign off on the deal.

Both the Mets and Rangers had somewhat disappointing seasons in 2025. The Mets finished at 83-79, 13 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East. The Rangers, who won the World Series for the first time in team history in 2023, finished right at the .500 mark at 81-81.
