A popular Texas sports broadcaster has revealed his wife suffered two separate miscarriages just minutes before he took to the air.
Jared Sandler, 36, now an on-field host for the Texas Rangers, opened up about the traumatic experiences, telling The Dallas Morning News that on both occasions, he collected his thoughts and called the game.
Both miscarriages happened in the past five years.Â
He and wife Emily, 32, have lost 10 potential children through miscarriages, unexpected health complications, failed in vitro fertilization (IVF), and multiple surrogacy, Sandler explained.
His duties as a broadcaster, however, have helped him push forward, he said.
‘The Rangers have made it clear, in those situations, no one’s forced me to work,’ Sandler, formerly a play-by-play announcer for the team, explained.
‘I feel like it’s my responsibility to work and it provides a little bit of an escape.’
He said his wife – along with his other love, baseball – ‘saved me’ and ‘gave me purpose.’ Â

The couple’s first pregnancy, in 2020, came as Major League Baseball had just returned from a break brought on by COVID-19, Sandler said Â
It lasted just nine weeks before Emily suffered a miscarriage that May.
The fetus was diagnosed with two chromosomal abnormalities, and Emily was diagnosed with the same.
The couple then turned to IVF to make their dream of having children a reality the following January. Six failed attempts to fertilize Emily’s eggs followed.
One resulted in a pregnancy that lasted just seven weeks, Sandler said.
Another, an attempt at twins, ended in a miscarriage after nine weeks.
Each proved quite costly, the journalist said.
A typical IVF cycle can cost anywhere between $12,000-$25,000, the Dallas Morning News reported.Â

An attempt at surrogacy in 2023 also ended in a miscarriage, Sandler said
Toward the end of the year, Emily became pregnant naturally, just as the Rangers were in the midst of their first-ever successful World Series run.
The baby, however, was diagnosed with an unexpected heart condition at 14-and-a-half weeks .
The Sandlers lost the child that December. She was the first they were able to name, the couple said, explaining why they decided to call her ‘Remi.’
‘She was resilient and she was a miracle,’ Emily said. ‘That’s how we came up with R-E-M-I.’
After they lost the child, Sandler hugged his wife for what ‘felt like forever,’ he said.
He recalled how Emily produced a paper marked with Remi’s footprints following her release from the hospital.
Sandler said he ‘collapsed’ afterwards. Â
Sandler credited his career and spouse with helping him persevere
Emily still carries a small green placard containing the prints, she said, speaking out about her struggles for the first time after only touching on them in podcasts and on social media.
She said of the next several months, ‘I was a zombie.’
‘I didn’t leave my house. We were in bed all day, every day together,’ she explained. ‘We didn’t do anything. I took off work just to process. I literally could not function. We couldn’t do anything. We were completely helpless.’
Her husband admitted: ‘I didn’t want to hang out with friends. I would change the channel if there was a baby. I would look miserable if the topic of a baby came up.’
The cloud of depression continued into the next year.
I wasn’t until  December 12, 2024 – Remi’s first birthday – that Emily felt a ‘weight off of her shoulders’.
Sandler said he was motivated by his wife’s strength.
‘It reminded me that I need to fight for her,’ he said, calling Emily his ‘best friend.’

‘I’ve learned this girl who I used to think – because she wasn’t an athlete and if I stepped on her toe you’d think it’s World War 7 – is kind of a baby, is one of the toughest people I’ve ever met,’ he said. Â
‘I don’t think her strength is that she doesn’t ever get to those dark places. It’s just getting up every day,’ Sandler added.
The couple continued to persevere, and Emily is now expecting a child this spring.
She took to Instagram to announce the pregnancy on October 1, at the time expecting twins.
That plan was to have one child naturally and one via surrogacy, the Sanders said.
However, their surrogate miscarried.Â
The two remain hopeful Emily will birth a healthy child this time. Â
‘When we first started May of 2020 I wanted to be a dad, I wanted to be a great broadcaster, I wanted to be a great husband,’ Sandler said. ‘I definitely want all those things. I think it means something different to me today than it used to.’
