There is no more important decision for the Philadelphia Phillies to make this offseason than their choice with Kyle Schwarber.

The fan-favorite designated hitter is a free agent and could depart the Phillies this winter. But the Phillies need him back and are trying hard to sign him to an extension.

While nothing is close yet, as Jesse Rogers of ESPN shares, MLB executives around baseball predict the Phillies will get a Schwarber extension done this winter.

Phillies predicted by MLB execs to retain Kyle Schwarber

When asked which of Schwarber, Pete Alonso, Alex Bregman, and Cody Bellinger is the most likely to re-sign with their original team, the results were very favorable for the Phillies. Rogers shared that the “Survey says: Schwarber 7, Alonso 4, Bregman 4.”

The Phillies bringing Schwarber back is something that’s well-documented as the team’s plan this winter. But, with clubs like the Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, and potentially many others interested, it might not be so simple to re-sign Schwarber.

Fortunately for the Phillies, this prediction from 15 MLB executives has the Phillies re-signing Schwarber as the most likely of the four options given by Rogers.

While it’s still not a sure thing that Schwarber returns, the fact that nearly half of the MLB executives predicted that Schwarber would return to Philadelphia is a good sign.

He’s coming off a 56 home run season with 132 RBIs, both led the National League, while his RBI total led all of baseball. He’ll be 33 years old at the start of the season, and while a big contract for a DH-only might be a risk, it’s one well worth taking for the Phillies.

Keeping Schwarber is the Phillies’ top priority this offseason, and this prediction from MLB executives is an encouraging sign for their odds of retaining the 2025 MVP runner-up for the foreseeable future.
