There might be a whole lot of movement in the City of Brotherly Love this MLB offseason, as the Philadelphia Phillies definitely need to make some changes after their second straight NLDS exit.
The Phillies have multiple key free agents of their own they need to attend to, such as Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto. Most are resigned to the fact that Ranger Suarez is a goner at this point, but Philadelphia may try to re-sign Harrison Bader.

Meanwhile, the Phillies could also be active on the trade market, and Todd Zolecki of MLB.com has revealed that Philadelphia has already tried to move third baseman Alec Bohm.
This should not come as much of a surprise. The Phillies dangled Bohm in trade talks last winter, only to hold on to the former first-round pick because they couldn’t find enough value for him.
Unfortunately, Bohm’s value has dipped even further after a disappointing 2025 campaign. Couple that with the fact that the 29-year-old is entering is final year of club control, and Philadelphia would be lucky to acquire anything of significance in exchange for him.

Bohm slashed .287/.331/.409 with 11 home runs and 59 RBI over 504 plate appearances this past season. He certainly wasn’t terrible, but he has not developed into the reliable middle-of-the-order bat the Phillies anticipated when they drafted him third overall back in 2018.

Making matters worse is Bohm’s consistently poor defense at the hot corner, as he managed a minus-3 DRS and minus-3 OAA.
Of course, the question is, what exactly would Philadelphia do at third base if it ultimately jettisons Bohm?
Alex Bregman is a possibility in free agency, but that becomes less realistic if the Phillies re-sign Schwarber, which is expected. Neither Otto Kemp nor Edmundo Sosa are entirely enticing options, and top prospect Aidan Miller, a shortstop expected to change positions, is probably still a year away.
Bohm is a lifetime .279/.328/.415 hitter. He tallied 20 homers in 2022 and registered a respectable .797 OPS in 2024, but it doesn’t look like he will ever be anything more than a merely decent hitter, and Philadelphia needs more than that if it wants to take the next step.
We’ll see if the Phillies are able to find a viable trade partner for Bohm.
