And according to the Associated Press, Skenes is now the owner of the record for the biggest pre-arbitration payout in history.

The recent National League CY Young award winner is said to have received a mammoth $3,436,343 from this season’s pre-arbitration pool.

That figure has skyrocketed the 23-year-old’s total takings from the pool during his two years in the MLB.

Skenes has now pocketed a whopping $5,588,400 from the pool.

The program was brought in to ensure players who didn’t meet the required playing time for salary arbitration ahead of the season get more money.

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sanchez was second in this year’s list with $2,678,437 having pocketed a $576,282 bonus.

And he was followed by pitchers Hunter Brown and Bryan Woo, with the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners stars taking home $2,206,538 and $1,540,676, respectively.

The top five is rounded out by Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll, who has taken home a total of $1,341,674.

The previous highest pre-arbitration bonus was the $3,077,595 Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr received for the 2024 season.

Skenes has been on the radar of baseball fans for several years.

But he reached an entirely new audience in 2023 when he started dating former LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne.
