According to MLB.com’s Mike Petriello, St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado may be a strong fit in the desert.
When Suárez was traded, the position shifted among several players, with Blaze Alexander taking most of the workload. Jordan Lawlar also saw time at third, but defensive miscues eventually pushed him into a designated hitter role to finish the season.
With Alexander shaping up as a utility player capable of moving around the diamond and Lawlar getting outfield reps in the Dominican Winter League, the D-backs appear likely to explore external options at third base.

Bringing in Arenado would give Arizona not only a veteran presence in the infield but also Gold Glove–caliber defense. A shoulder injury sidelined him for several months this year, but he still posted above-average metrics, finishing with +6 defensive runs saved and +3 outs above average.
His offense, however, is concerning.

In 2025, Arenado’s batting average and OPS dipped to .237 and .666. He finished with 52 RBIs and 12 home runs.
For a team balancing youth with an urgency to win, the idea of trading for Arenado could be tempting. The National League West continues to improve and the Diamondbacks likely don’t want to fall behind. Adding an All-Star like Arenado, who previously played alongside Arizona fan favorite Paul Goldschmidt, could shift the division’s dynamics.

While it’s unclear whether the D-backs will seriously pursue Arenado this offseason, the club will need to decide soon who will handle third-base duties in 2026.
