TYLER, Texas — East Texas native and Chicago White Sox pitcher Hagen Smith has a lot to be thankful for this year.
On Thanksgiving Day, Smith, a Bullard High School alumni, proposed to his now-fiancé Katherine. He shared the photos in an Instagram post that was captioned, “Thankful I get to love you forever!”
The photographer for the proposal, Callynth Finney, wrote in a post that Smith “threw the most important pitch of his life,” and Katherine knocked it out of the park when she said yes.
“Two University of Arkansas hearts and now one future together. Here’s to the biggest win yet,” Finney wrote.
During his collegiate career, Smith was a starting pitcher at the University of Arkansas. He was named the National Pitcher of the Year and a finalist for the Golden Spikes award, an honor that goes to the top amateur baseball player in the United States.
In his last season at Arkansas, Smith started 16 games for the Razorbacks and finished the season with a 9-2 win-loss record.
