Pablo Nunez had himself a strong year down in the Dominican Summer League in 2025. He hit .327/.542/.413 with 41 walks and just six strikeouts in 36 games played. The DSL is a professional league, but many of the players are the same age as juniors and seniors in high school, too. There’s a big gap in the level of play between that league and even the domestic complex leagues.
Nunez hasn’t had a chance to get playing time in the Arizona Complex League, but he is spending his winter along with three other Reds position player prospects in the Australian Baseball League. While the league is nowhere near the same level of play as the other well known winter leagues, it’s a step up from the Dominican Summer League. And so far, Nunez has handled things without skipping much of a beat.
Last night/early this morning (the game began at 3am ET) Pablo Nunez got another start in center and was back in the leadoff spot for Sydney as they took on Adelaide. The Venezuelan who just turned 19 late in October picked up four more hits on the night. One of those hits was a 2-run double. He had four RBI in the game and he scored a run.
After the game was over for Nunez he had a triple-slash line of .471/.538/.559. His .471 batting average leads the league, with the next closest guy hitting an even .400. Nunez also leads the league with his .538 on-base percentage. His OPS of 1.097 is one point behind the league leader. The 16 hits he’s picked up and the 11 runs he’s score are tops in the league, too.
This game featured all four of the Reds prospects in the league. Nunez, Hansel Jimenez, and Jirvin Morillo are all on the Sydney Blue Sox. Their opponent this week is Adelaide, which features outfielder Drew Davies.
Jirvin Morillo had himself a strong game as he served as the designated hitter for Sydney. He picked up three hits in four at-bats, drew a walk, and he scored two runs. That helped push his line to .391/.440/.652 through his first six games. He’s currently 4th in the league in batting average, 5th in the league in on-base percentage, tops in the league in slugging percentage, and 3rd in the league in OPS.
On the other side of the field Drew Davies went 1-4 and scored a run. He’s played in the league in both 2023 and 2024, but only saw limited action in both years – playing 14 total games and going 5-31 in that time. This year he’s playing every night and he’s building on a quality 2025 season that he had in the Arizona Complex League and Florida State League after joining the Daytona Tortugas in the second half. Davies is now hitting .290/.353/.387 through eight games with Adelaide so far with three doubles, which ranks third in the league.
