Texas RangersRegardless of the lack of media coverage around Tommy Pham so far this offseason, expect him to find a home for the 2026  MLB season. The market for Pham might not be massive, but the Texas Rangers could be interested.

The reason that the Rangers come to mind as a potential landing spot for Pham is their interest in him at the MLB trade deadline last season.

The Pirates and Rangers have spoken about David Bednar, as I reported earlier today on @MLBNetwork.

Texas also is a potential landing spot for Pittsburgh outfielder Tommy Pham, who will likely be moved for the 3rd trade deadline in a row.

While the Rangers weren’t able to acquire Pham, who stayed with the Pittsburgh Pirates for the whole year, now they have a chance.

Here’s why the Rangers should be interested in signing Pham in free agency.

This is a PREDICTION, not a REPORT.

Tommy Pham Joining Texas Rangers in MLB Free Agency

At 37 years old, Pham isn’t going to draw a massive contract. With that being said, Pham had a solid year in 2025 that should lead to him garnering some interest from teams such as the Rangers.

Last year, Pham had 1.0 WAR, 10 home runs, a .245 batting average, and a .330 OBP across 120 games and 449 plate appearances

When looking at Baseball Savant, Pham had a Batting Run Value of 0, which was in the 40th percentile, a Baserunning Run Value of -3 (6th percentile), and a -4 Fielding Run Value (26th percentile).

Pham has now been in the negative mark in terms of Fielding Run Value for the past two years, but he’s been a solid hitter. That alone is what should earn him a spot on an MLB roster.

How Tommy Pham Fits with the Texas Rangers

At this point in Pham’s career, there’s no guarantee that he’s an everyday player. Although Pham got a lot of playing time last year, that was with the Pirates.

Now, to be fair, it’s not as if the Rangers are an elite team, going 81-81 last year. But the Rangers do have two promising outfielders in Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford.

Even with Brandon Nimmo projected to be the Rangers’ starting right fielder, this outfield could still use a veteran presence off the bench, as Carter and Langford are both under 25 years old.

Between Ezequiel Duran, Sam Haggerty, and Michael Helman, this bench could use an upgrade. Despite never making it to the All-Star Game, Pham knows what it’s like to play at an elite level.

In 2017, Pham finished in 11th in the NL MVP Voting after a monster season. That year, Pham had 6.3 WAR, 23 home runs, a .306 batting average, and a .411 OBP.

Although Pham was never a truly elite player, he could provide a ton of guidance to this young outfield group and act as a veteran presence to help this Rangers team make it back to the playoffs.

If the Rangers were to sign Tommy Pham, it shouldn’t shock anyone, as the fit and past ties make it extremely logical.

Tommy Pham Stats

Pham has played with a number of different teams over his 12-year career, and he’s posted some impressive stats. When looking at Pham’s 162-game average, he has 2.5 WAR, 19 home runs, a .256 batting average, and a .344 OBP.
