The Texas Rangers ended up finding a new solution in their outfield by trading with the New York Mets for Brandon Nimmo, but in doing so, they had to give up Marcus Semien, creating a new issue at second base.
The Rangers are trying to find new ways to advance the team for the future, which includes cutting payroll. Their next solution at second base isn’t going to be someone that breaks the bank, but it will have to be someone that can still provide a valuable impact at the position.
The player the Rangers can turn to is a free agent, and that is Luis Arraez.

Luis Arraez Signs With the Texas Rangers in MLB Free Agency
Luis Arraez is coming off a season with the San Diego Padres, where he had a .292/.327.392 slash line with eight home runs and 61 RBIs. While Arraez has provided steady production over the last two seasons with the Padres, it doesn’t seem like San Diego will end up re-signing him, leaving him available to sign elsewhere in free agency.
On the surface, it might not seem like Luis Arraez would solve the Rangers’ second base problem, as throughout the last two seasons in San Diego, he has played primarily first base. Yet, Arraez has experience playing second base as well. Arraez has actually played 359 games at second base, compared to 263 at first base in his career.
Luis Arraez isn’t necessarily a slugger, as he only has 36 home runs over his entire career, and at 29 years ol and entering his eighth season, that won’t change, but with his fielding percentage of .988 at second base, and having a career slash of .317/.363/.413, he provides the experience and playing ability that the Rangers need to start getting things back on track.
