For most of the MLB season and early into the offseason, there weren’t too many people who believed veteran slugger Kyle Schwarber would not return to the Philadelphia Phillies this winter. Schwarber is hitting free agency, and there has been a lot of interest from other teams to sign him outright.

The Phillies want to bring him back, but the team may have some issues with his age and the length of the contract that he wants. Schwarber isn’t likely to land a 10-year contract, but rather, many expect him to get a five or six-year deal on the open market.

If he were to insist on a six-year deal, the Phillies could back off to allow him to explore other teams. We see this consistency in free agency, and it has forced players to leave teams that they had no desire to leave.

Schwarber is coming off a truly special season in 2025, becoming a finalist in the group of the National League MVP voting. This will likely be his final “big” deal in baseball, so he will be trying to cash in.

The veteran appeared in all 162 games for Philadelphia, hitting. 240 with 56 home runs and 132 runs batted in. Schwarber was one of the more feared batters in all of baseball this year, and this is going to get him paid.

But it remains to be seen if he will return to the Phillies or head elsewhere for the final years of his career. Either way, Schwarber is one of the hottest names on the open market and will be until he signs a new contract.

Kyle Schwarber Signs With New York Yankees

As Schwarber looks around the league for his next landing spot, the New York Yankees could be a team to make a play for his services. New York is coming off another frustrating end to the season, and this could see the franchise look to make some big additions to the roster.

Putting the power bat of Schwarber into the same lineup as star Aaron Judge would make the Yankees have one of the more feared duos in all of baseball. Even at his age, Schwarber is still one of the better hitters in the league, and he could thrive playing with the short porch in Yankee Stadium.

Schwarber has a no-nonsense approach to his game, and this could be exactly what the Yankees need going forward. Far too often, the Yankees seem to be a little too loose on the field, and adding someone like this could be the veteran voice that the club needs in the locker room.

The Yankees could mix and match Schwarber throughout the lineup to create an explosive offensive attack. Since he is more of a designated hitter at this point in his career, it would allow New York to add other pieces to the team, too.

Overall, the Yankees have the money needed to bring Schwarber in, and he could be one of the more solid additions for them this winter. But how aggressive New York will be this offseason remains to be seen, even if adding the slugger could be a massive game-changer for the organization.
