After the Toronto Blue Jays lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2025 World Series, it should leave the Blue Jays with more desire to advance the team, knowing they were extremely close to winning it all, but fell short of the ultimate goal.
One thing the Blue Jays must figure out is their shortstop spot as Bo Bichette is set to hit free agency, and there is the chance he doesn’t re-sign with the team. If that ends up happening, Toronto has an even bigger hole in their lineup they must figure out how to fix.
To do so, Toronto can turn to free agency, and look to sign Jorge Polanco to fix this.

Toronto Blue Jays Sign Jorge Polanco in 2026 MLB Free Agency
Jorge Polanco is coming off a major season with the Mariners, where he had a slash line of .265/.326/.495 with 26 home runs, 78 RBIs, Â and a 132 wRC+. Polanco will most likely end up signing elsewhere in free agency, as he went on to decline his player option for 2026 with the Seattle Mariners.
It can be expected that Jorge Polanco will look for a contract that is between one to three years for anywhere from $10-$16 million. Polanco has performed well, but his injury history could end to him having to settle for a contract within this range instead of looking for anything more. Between his talent and being on a cheaper contract than expected, Polanco becomes the ideal free agent signing for the Blue Jays.
Andres Gimenez could be Bo Bichette’s replacement, but if that is the case, that then makes second base an issue for the Blue Jays. With Jorge Polanco’s ability to play both second base and shortstop, it would give the Blue Jays the ability to figure out the best lineup to deploy in 2026.
Toronto needs to figure out how to advance the team in 2026, and for that to be accomplished, they have to sign Jorge Polanco this MLB Free Agency period. With Polanco being just 32 years old and coming off a season in which he had the second most home runs of his career and the third most RBIs, he is just scratching the surface of his potential, and is an ideal player for Toronto to build around.
