Two-time Gold Glove winner Kolten Wong has announced his retirement from professional baseball.
According to ESPN, Wong, 34, announced the news when he was inducted into University of Hawaii’s Circle of Honor on Friday.
“Pretty much right now, I’m done,” Wong said. “I’ve kind of come to the conclusion that I’m probably going to be hanging them up. It’s just one of those things where, the game how it’s going now, there’s no sense of chasing (it). … I’m a dad now, yes, I’m enjoying that. I’m trying to be the best big league dad that I can be. So I’m going to stick to that.”
Wong grew up in Hawaii and graduated from Kamehameha Schools in 2008, Hawaii News Now reports.
The second baseman was drafted in 2011 by the St. Louis Cardinals. He went on to have a very successful career in Major League Baseball.
Wong won both of his Gold Gloves with the Cardinals, but his best year at bat, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, came with the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers signed Wong in 2021 and he played with them for two seasons.
