The Philadelphia Phillies are looking like they’ll be big players in free agency one way or another. Their top priority this offseason is re-signing National League MVP finalist Kyle Schwarber, but the designated hitter’s return to Philly isn’t set in stone.

There are a few other free agents on the market that could be interesting fits with the Phillies, and Yahoo Sports! Jordan Schusterman believes Bo Bichette could be an option, but on one condition.

“It should be noted upfront that an upgrade in the outfield — and/or the Phillies doing whatever it takes to retain Kyle Schwarber at DH — is significantly more likely this winter than a dramatic shake-up in the infield [to add Bichette],” wrote Schusterman.

“That said, if those expected pursuits fall short — and if Alec Bohm stays put at third — Bichette could be an interesting, high-dollar target for Philadelphia if it’s willing to trade Bryson Stott to address other needs.”

Schusterman makes a great point with an argument.

It may be time for Philly to shake up the infield, and if they do miss out on re-signing Schwarber or Harrison Bader, then they could use that as an opportunity to move some things around.

There have already been reports that the Phillies have been trying to move Alec Bohm this offseason, which only adds fuel to the narrative of Dave Dombrowski being ready to break up the infield core.

As for Bichette’s potential fit in Philadelphia’s lineup, it certainly would be a seamless fit for the right-handed hitter. A top-three of Trae Turner, Bryce Harper, and Bichette could easily be on the best top-thirds of a lineup in the National League East.

Bichette is coming off a 2025 season in which he hit .311/.357/.483, with an OPS of .840, including 18 home runs.

Overall, Schusterman’s idea of the Phillies becoming a fit for Bichette, if they lose out on their own free agents, could make a lot of sense.

It may not be the most likely outcome for Philadelphia, but we’ve certainly seen wilder events play out his this MLB offseason.
