With the offseason here for the Philadelphia Phillies, the top priority is re-signing Kyle Schwarber.
Whether that means giving him $150 million or more remains to be seen, but there’s absolutely no way this lineup can allow a hitter who just hit 56 home runs and was the best hitter in the lineup to walk.
That’s part of the reason why Theo DeRosa of MLB.com believes this is Philadelphia’s biggest goal this winter. He admitted that Schwarber will be a significant piece in this team trying to win another NL East, and more importantly, make a deep playoff run.

Bringing back the slugging designated hitter, who finished second in NL MVP Award voting in 2025, would be crucial for a Phillies team hoping to claim its third straight NL East title and make a deep postseason run…
“Schwarber has said he hopes to return to Philadelphia, although the two sides were not close to a deal as of Tuesday, according to MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki. That said, it’s only November, and there’s plenty of time to hash out contract details. A reunion between Schwarber and the Phillies makes a ton of sense, and there’s no more immediate priority for Philadelphia this offseason than bringing back its star slugger,” he wrote.
The main question for Schwarber will likely come down to money. If he’s looking for the biggest offer, there’s no guarantee that Philadelphia will offer that.
However, it’s still expected that the Phillies will have a very competitive offer on the table.
