Williams had an outstanding track record over the course of the six seasons he spent with the Brewers from 2019 through 2024, but he struggled after being traded to the Yankees ahead of the 2025 season. In 62.0 innings this year, he had a 4.79 ERA with a 34.7 percent strikeout rate, a 9.7 percent walk rate, and a 2.68 FIP.

In those six seasons with the Brewers, Williams had an outstanding 1.83 ERA with a 2.39 FIP in 235.2 innings of work. He was named the National League Rookie of the Year after finishing the abbreviated 2020 season with a 0.33 ERA in 27.0 innings, and he was named to the 2022 and 2023 All-Star teams. He finished those two seasons and the 2024 season with ERAs between 1.25 and 1.93.
