The Toronto Blue Jays are likely one of the teams to spend the most money this offseason after their World Series run in 2025. With Bo Bichette on the open market and their interest in Kyle Tucker, Toronto has a lot of decisions to make.
They’ve already brought in former San Diego Padres starter Dylan Cease on a huge $210 million deal, but they’re still likely to add a reliever, and also go after Tucker and Bichette. Some speculation has grown they could even land both.
However, according to MLB Network insider Jon Morosi, the Blue Jays’ plan with Tucker and Bichette this winter isn’t likely to be both, but rather an “either-or” situation.
Blue Jays not likely to land both Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette
“I actually look at it as an either-or with Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette,” Morosi said. “Addison Barger is an everyday player. So if you sign Tucker, Barger to third, Clement to second, Gimenez is your shortstop, and there’s not any room for Bo at that point.”
.@jonmorosi says he expects Kyle Schwarber to sign before Kyle Tucker:
“Neither one of them will sign this week… [I] feel like we’re heading towards a Winter Meetings signing extravaganza.”

Addison Barger, Ernie Clement, and Andres Gimenez make up the Blue Jays’ infield if they sign Tucker, which leaves little room for Bichette. And if Bichette were the one to sign with Toronto, then Barger would be in the outfield, and then there wouldn’t be a spot for Tucker.
Regardless of whether it’s Tucker or Bichette signing with the Blue Jays, if one does wind up signing, the other would not have a spot on the roster.

Toronto has strong odds to land one or the other, but Morosi’s report all but shuts down the possibility that the Blue Jays could land both Tucker and Bichette. It’s one or the other.
While the dream scenario of landing both isn’t likely, the Blue Jays being able to bring in just one of those players would be a successful offseason. Tucker and Bichette are some of the best hitters on the market and fill needs for the Blue Jays.
If the Blue Jays left free agency with one of those players signed to a long-term extension, this winter would be a successful one. Landing both was always a stretch, and Morosi’s report confirms that the Blue Jays’ plans this winter are likely to focus on one or the other.
