DETROIT — Veteran right-handed reliever John Brebbia, who spent part of 2025 with the Detroit Tigers, signed a minor-league contract with the Colorado Rockies this week.

Brebbia, 35, signed a one-year, $2.75 million deal with the Tigers before the 2025 season. He posted a 1.00 ERA with nine strikeouts in nine innings before suffering a right triceps strain in late April. After returning on May 11, he allowed 16 runs on 19 hits in 9 2/3 innings and was DFA’d on June 15.

Brebbia signed a minor-league deal with the Braves following his release and pitched well at Triple-A Gwinnett before getting a late-season call-up.

A 30th-round pick by the Yankees in 2011 out of Elon University, Brebbia later pitched in the Diamondbacks system before joining the Cardinals in the 2015 Rule 5 Draft. He thrived in St. Louis, posting a 3.14 ERA over 175 innings from 2017–2019. Following Tommy John surgery, he signed with the San Francisco Giants, where he led the National League with 76 appearances in 2022 and set a career-best strikeout rate in 2023.

He signed a one-year, $5.5 million deal with the White Sox before the 2024 season but went 0-6 with a 6.29 ERA in 48 2/3 innings before being released. He also pitched briefly for the Braves at the end of 2024.
