The Chicago Cubs are in a position where they need to fix some big holes on the roster heading into the 2026 season. They have a good minor league system and are in a position where they could pull the trigger on some major moves. While they are dealing with the potential loss of right fielder Kyle Tucker, starting pitcher Aaron Civale, and designated hitter Justin Turner to name a few, the team could use some boosts. Let’s take a closer look at how one baseball insider believes the Chicago Cubs could be shut out this winter.

The Chicago Cubs have the potential to be major players in the trade market, but not every person believes they will be. ESPN’s Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel released an article today ranking the top 25 players who could be traded and listed potential suitors. However, the Cubs were not listed as suitors for any of the players in the article, which should raise some concern about the team’s potential offseason.

This is possibly being a reaction of how the front office did not move off key tradeable players at the trade deadline this past season. A lot of these discussions for players of that elk will  begin with names like Matt Shaw, Moises Ballesteros, Cade Horton, Owen Caissie, and Jaxon Wiggins, so at least some of those players would need to be included to land top-tier players. One potential name that would make sense is Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte, but there are going to be other teams willing to offer bigger trade packages.

With the Chicago Cubs being active in the trade market last offseason, adding Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros, they could have gotten cold feet with trading young talent for players in walk years. It is going to be intriguing to see whether the Cubbies are going to be active in the trade market or just target free agents.
