Lee Jung-hoo’s team, San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmidt (26), underwent surgery.

The Giants reported Schmidt’s surgery on the 3rd (Korea Standard Time).

Schmidt underwent surgery to remove a carpal boss on the morning of the 2nd local time in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Steve Shin led the way.

The Giants said the surgery was done well and they are now recovering. The expected recovery period is eight to 10 weeks. There will be no problem in preparation for the spring camp.

Schmidt, a second-round draft pick in 2020, has played infield utility for three seasons since his major league debut in 2023.

There was a meaningful development last season. In 95 games, he recorded a batting average of 0.237 on-base percentage of 0.305 with 12 home runs and 40 RBIs, showing his best performance since his debut.

He played infield positions including second base (49 starts), third base (23 games), first base (12 games) and shortstop (1 game).

He was hit by a dune in his left hand during the June game and later placed on the injured list, but he has been suffering from left-handed injuries since his return. This surgery seems to be an option to solve this problem.

If San Francisco does not make a separate infield reinforcement, it is likely to compete for the main second baseman position with Tyler Fitzgerald in the 2026 season.
