San Francisco GiantsIn a free agency class that some would consider weak at the top in terms of starting pitching, Ranger Suárez has become one of the most appealing names, especially with Dylan Cease no longer available.

A number of teams would love to add Suárez to their rotation, but the San Francisco Giants would make a ton of sense as a landing spot.

After winning just 81 games in 2025, this Giants team needs to make some moves. This roster is good enough that rebuilding doesn’t make sense, but they don’t have all the pieces to contend.

Since winning 107 games back in 2021, the Giants haven’t won more than 81 games, but also have yet to lose more than 79. Given the roster construction the Giants have right now, pushing their chips in makes more sense.

Here’s why the Giants’ signing Suárez in MLB free agency would be a great fit for both sides.

This is a PREDICTION, not a REPORT.

Ranger Suárez Will Join The Giants in MLB Free Agency

Suárez had a fantastic year in 2024 when he made the All-Star Game, but his numbers from 2025 may be even better. Last season, Suárez had 4.7 WAR, a 3.20 ERA, and a 1.220 WHIP.

Looking at Baseball Savant, Suárez posted some phenomenal advanced metrics as well. He had a Pitching Run Value of 17 (90th percentile), Fastball Run Value of 3 (60th percentile), Breaking Run Value of 8 (87th percentile), and an Offspeed Run Value of 6 (90th percentile).

Great numbers across the board should give MLB teams a ton of confidence that Suárez can continue this level of production into 2026.

How Ranger Suárez Fits with the San Francisco Giants

If Suárez shows interest in signing with the Giants, they should absolutely be looking to lock him down.

For starters, at 30 years old, Suárez fits the bill of helping the Giants win now while also providing them with a starter beyond just the next year or so.

He’d also fill a clear need for San Francisco. Last year, the Giants’ starters were below average in terms of their ERA at 4.10, which was 17th in the MLB.

As of now, Landen Roupp is the Giants’ projected 3rd starter on Fangraphs with Kai-Wei Teng in the 4th spot. Moving Roupp down to the 4th or 5th spot with Suárez holding down the middle of the rotation would be a much better fit.

Having Suárez, Robbie Ray, and Logan Webb should give Giants fans hope for a turnaround in 2026.

As for Suárez, even though he would be leaving the Philadelphia Phillies, he’s still going to be on a competing roster next year, which should appeal to him.

Ranger Suárez Stats

Over eight years, Suárez has a career ERA of 3.38, 18.1 WAR, and 1.270 WHIP. Not many would consider Suárez as a superstar, but since 2021, he’s put together some extremely impressive seasons.
