The Athletic | Brendan Kuty: Even though Gerrit Cole is going to miss the entire season, his impact can still be seen on the field. Cole has seemingly taken rookie Will Warren under his wing and constantly talks to him about his pitching and execution. Whatever Cole’s been doing has helped as Warren’s overcome early season mixed results to go on a bit of a run. Most recently, he racked up 10 strikeouts in 5.2 innings against the Rangers on Tuesday night.

New York Daily News | Gary Phillips: When Devin Williams came over from the Brewers, fans had imagined a formidable back-end bullpen duo with Luke Weaver and Williams as the closer. Although Williams struggled early on, he and Weaver have now formed that duo fans salivated at—it’s just that the order in which they pitch has flipped. To his credit, Williams seems to hold no grudge on losing his job and says reclaiming the closer job “doesn’t matter.” He’s just focused on pitching and has done his job in 9 of his last 10 outings, so he’s trending back up.

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Aaron Judge has a knack for hitting home runs that leave fans in awe. He did something similar on Tuesday night against Texas, though not quite for the same reason. While fans are used to seeing monster home runs from Judge, he actually accomplished a feat that seemed unlikely for him. He hit a round-tripper that went only 326 feet, the shortest home run of his career — not that he should feel bad about it.

New York Post | Mark W. Sanchez: There was a short stint where Josh Smith was considered a Baby Bomber. After he was drafted by the Yankees out of LSU in 2019, he finished the year with the now-defunct short-season Staten Island Yankees. COVID infamously knocked out the 2020 minor-league season, but he came back in 2021 with Low-A Tampa before jumping to the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades for 28 games. Then all of a sudden, he found himself heading to the Rangers organization as part of the Joey Gallo trade. Now, he’s an integral part of Texas’ core, cementing himself as both a starter and their Swiss Army knife capable of manning any position (currently subbing for the injured Corey Seager at shortstop).
