The Los Angeles Dodgers are chasing a three-peat in 2026, but the quest will be without Josh Byrnes, their senior vice president of baseball operations, who oversaw the organization’s scouting and player development.

Byrnes was named the general manager of the Colorado Rockies Wednesday morning. He will serve under Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta.
The hiring of Byrnes signals the Rockies are changing the way the club acquires and develops players, which falls in line with the rest of the NL West. The division is perhaps the best in baseball and the Rockies have been at the bottom of the pack for far too long.
Josh Byrnes, former Diamondbacks and Padres general manager, will be the Rockies GM under president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta, sources tell me and @dennistlin. Byrnes has been the Dodgers’ senior vice president of baseball operations since 2014.

This isn’t the first time Byrnes has been a general manager as he held the position with the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres. The new role in Colorado marks the fourth NL West front office Byrnes has been apart of.
Since his first season with the team in 2015, the Dodgers have posted the best record in baseball, winning 11 division titles, four National League pennants and three World Series titles.
It looks like the defending champions now have a vacant role to fill with Byrnes’ departure.
