Golden basketball threw a lob to its school’s championship baseball team during halftime of the Demons’ season opener on the hardwood against Lakewood on Dec. 2.

While the basketball team secured the 76-40 victory over Lakewood, the baseball team got the top prize of the night.

A halftime ring ceremony celebrated the Demons securing their first baseball state title since 2003 earlier this year. Golden defeated Cheyenne Mountain 5-1 in the 4A state championship final on May 31 at the Air Force Academy.

“When (Baseball coach Jackie) McBroom asked me if they could do it at halftime, I said absolutely,” Golden boys basketball coach Lou Vullo said. “It was awesome. It helped pack the gym a little bit more, too.”

Junior Dylan Paulson is a guard on the basketball team and a centerfielder for the baseball team. He enjoyed the best of both worlds on Tuesday night.

“It was just special,” Paulson said of getting his state championship ring. “To share it with the community was very special tonight.”

Player introductions, the ring presentation and even a season-long highlight reel helped celebrate the Demons’ success on the diamond.

The girls basketball team also enjoyed a victory against Lakewood, winning 46-27 to get the celebratory night started.

“Winning the state championship was years of hard work, belief and commitment,” Baseball coach McBroom said. “This team built something special, and I’m incredibly proud of the legacy they’ve left.”

The baseball team finished 26-4 and a perfect 9-0 in the 4A/3A Jeffco League, including a 15-game win streak to finish the regular season before continuing success in the playoffs.

Golden graduates eight seniors from the baseball team. Now that the Demons have tasted championship success for the first time in over two decades, expectations will spike in 2026. But for now, the team and players enjoy making history for the school.
