CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Cincinnati Reds catcher and Corpus Christi native Jose Treviño spent Wednesday morning delivering toys and holiday cheer to young patients at Driscoll Children’s Hospital.

Trevino partnered with the Starlight Children’s Foundation for the visit, which included handing out gifts, talking with families and spending time with children who will spend the holiday season in the hospital. Hospital staff said events like Wednesday’s provide a needed emotional lift for patients and caregivers.

Trevino, a father of two, said giving back to the community remains a priority, especially during the holidays. He noted that children at the hospital represent the future of the Coastal Bend and said he hopes his visit encourages others to volunteer their time.

“These kids, they are the future of our community,” Trevino said. “(I’m) just trying to advocate for people to get out in the community and help out, especially times like this.”

Driscoll officials said the toy distribution is part of ongoing efforts to support patients and their families during treatment and recovery.
