Fresh off the heels of one of the most iconic swings in franchise history, Miguel Rojas is back with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The veteran infielder, whose score-tying home run in Game 7 of the World Series helped propel his club to a title, will return for his final season in the majors, signing a one-year, $5.5 million deal, a league source confirmed on Wednesday.
The 36-year-old is expected to fill a role in player development with the Dodgers once his playing days are done.
Rojas’ signing, first reported by El Extra Base, was expected from the moment Los Angeles won back-to-back titles, with Rojas saying he’d like to finish his big league career where it started in 2014.
“This is my priority,” Rojas said. “I want to sign here. I already told the guys my desire to be with this organization. I think we deserve another run.”
The utilityman debuted with the Dodgers before being shipped to the Miami Marlins in one of Andrew Friedman’s first moves as president of baseball operations. Rojas returned ahead of the 2023 season and emerged as a key veteran voice in the years since, assuming the everyday shortstop role his first year before becoming a key bat off the bench over the last two seasons.
Over the last two seasons, his 106 OPS+ represents the best offensive stretch of his career, with the veteran largely playing against left-handed pitching. He is still expected to have a similar role in 2026, even as the team has expressed interest in retaining fellow free agent Kiké Hernández as well.
Rojas’ career revival was a full-circle moment. He first came to the organization as a minor-league free agent after initially signing as an international amateur from Venezuela with the Cincinnati Reds. That, Rojas said, was on his mind as he entered free agency for the first time in his career this winter (he signed a contract extension with the Dodgers in 2023).
That sentiment only grew in the ninth inning of Game 7 when Rojas, with the Dodgers two outs away from elimination, pulled a Jeff Hoffman slider over the home bullpen at the Rogers Centre to tie the game in an eventual 5-4 11-inning win.
By then, Rojas had already made it known that 2026 would be his final season. It’ll also be a farewell tour to a franchise World Series hero.
