At press time Monday, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres were almost neck-and-neck at the top of the National League West, with the San Francisco Giants close behind.

The Dodgers stood at 23-11, and the Padres were 22-11. The Giants were almost right behind at 22-13.

The Dodgers were to resume their series at Miami Tuesday, and the Padres were to continue their road series against the New York Yankees that day. The Los Angeles Angels were set to open their series in Anaheim against the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday night.

The top of the various MLB standings remained the same. The New York Mets were atop the National League East standings, and the Chicago Cubs led the NL Central. The American League leaders were the Yankees in the East Division, the Detroit Tigers in the Central and the Seattle Mariners in the West.
