COLORADO ROCKIES NAME JOSH BYRNES GENERAL MANAGER

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have named Josh Byrnes as the club’s general manager. In this role, Byrnes will be involved in overseeing all aspects of baseball operations while reporting to President of Baseball Operations Paul DePodesta.

“I’m incredibly excited to be able to bring Josh into our group,” said DePodesta. “Few executives in baseball share his combination of intellectual curiosity, breadth of experience, and on-field successes. We are extremely fortunate to add him, as he immediately strengthens our entire baseball operation.”

Byrnes has spent the last 11 seasons as the Los Angeles Dodgers’ senior vice president of baseball operations, where he supervised the Dodgers’ scouting and player development while helping the Dodgers to three World Series championships. Byrnes previously served as the general manager for two other NL West clubs during his career, with the San Diego Padres from 2011-14 and the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2005-10.

Prior to his roles as a general manager, Byrnes served as assistant general manager with the Boston Red Sox from 2003-05, and as assistant general manager with the Rockies from 1999-2002. He began his front office career with the Cleveland Indians in 1994, working as an advance scout before being promoted to the director of scouting in 1998 and ultimately joining Dan O’Dowd in Colorado. Byrnes and DePodesta worked alongside each other in Cleveland from 1996-98.

“I’m thrilled to be returning to the Rockies organization, especially at such an exciting time for the future of the franchise,” said Byrnes. “Working alongside Paul again is an incredible opportunity and I’m eager to join him and the rest of the group as we work to bring championship caliber baseball to the Rockies.”

A native of Washington, D.C., Byrnes attended Haverford (PA) College, where he established school records in home runs and RBI.

Byrnes and DePodesta will be available via Zoom at 1 p.m. MT this Friday, Dec. 5. A link for the call will be provided by Rockies Communications.
